Tariffs

Tariffs are a blunt economic tool that does two things:

1) Raises the prices of goods for consumers, who are the people who actually pay tariffs. >>Nations DO NOT PAY tariffs<<

2) Begs calls for retaliatory tariffs.

Our trading partners will simply slap tariffs on goods from red states, or cease exports to the United States entirely.

The U.S. gets most of its lumber and fertilizer from Canada. Those products will be sorely missed by the industries that use them (agriculture, construction).

As there is a strong global market for those commodities, Canada can simply

sell elsewhere.
